Emily Zhu is a research assistant at L&M. Ms. Zhu has qualitative research experience in public health and has contributed to published literature reviews. At L&M, she provides research support to evaluation projects for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). She currently assists with consumer testing to inform web tools for the federally facilitated health insurance exchange (HealthCare.gov) as well as a project for the CMS Office of Minority Health supporting stakeholder organizations in advancing health equity through the implementation of a disparities cost calculator. Additionally, she contributes to a project supporting CMS with monitoring and evaluation of active Medicaid Section 1115 demonstrations which evaluates state-specific policy approaches to better serve beneficiaries.

Prior to joining L&M, Ms. Zhu worked as a health innovations lab and policy program intern with the think tank New America, where she finalized a report analyzing the effect of technology innovations on attrition rates in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. She also has worked as an intern with the County of San Diego Public Health Services, aiding in the implementation and evaluation of a naloxone grant project, local outbreak response, and health communication efforts.

Ms. Zhu holds a B.A. in Public Health, with honors, and a B.A. in Public Policy from Brown University.
